The two-day introductory course on “Stable Isotopic Techniques in Human Nutrition” will help to build capacity and train young professionals in the use of stable isotopic techniques in nutrition.  Since the potential participants of the course are from academic and research background, this training will help them to start using stable isotopes in their nutrition related research and answer questions related to nutrients, body composition and energy expenditure. 

The Course will cover:

Didactic lectures and small group hands-on sessions on the following topics:

  • The use of stable isotopic methods in public health nutrition
  • Estimation of energy expenditure using doubly labelled water technique
  • Use of stable isotopes in assessing breast milk intake
  • Assessing Vitamin A Status using stable isotopes
  • Stable isotopic approaches to assess iron bioavailability
  • Hands on session with Data sets for body composition, lactation energy expenditure and iron metabolism.
